GoMacro

Hi everyone!

This kind of post is somewhat out of the norm for Sweet & Modern... I love to bake and some of the recipes I share are FAR from calorie friendly. However, when GoMacro Macrobar approached me about trying their bars, I agreed without hesitation. The big reason for that? Breastfeeding. Yep. Pregnancy hunger is legit, but breast feeding hunger is another monster!

During pregnancy, you are constantly aware that you are feeding and growing another human being. During breast feeding, it feels like that and more! I cannot believe how hungry I get - and it always seems to be during those late night feedings. I constantly found myself drowsy (understatement) and stumbling around in the kitchen at 3 AM looking for some kind of fast nourishment. Beyond it being fast, I wanted it to be filling and healthy for both me and baby.

I started browsing the GoMacro website. I was impressed that they have 11 different bars - perfect for someone like me who easily tires of eating the same thing over and over. More importantly, I was able to find out what a MacroBar is!

From their website:

"GoMacro® MacroBars™ are cold-pressed, nut-butter based nutrition bars that offer a chewy and filling experience. Made from simple, clean ingredients, all MacroBars™ are certified vegan, gluten-free, organic, R.A.W., C.L.E.A.N., kosher and non-GMO project verified. Our combination of high-protein and plant-based ingredients serve as the perfect way to keep you fueled throughout the day."

And... sold.

My variety pack arrived a few days later and I'm not going to lie... I probably had 3 that day. These bars are SO GOOD! My best comparison is a Larabar... but better. So much better. Tastes much more fresh and homemade. My favorite bar ended up being the "protein pleasure" which is peanut butter and chocolate chip (go figure!). You can find all of the flavor options here.

So, will I be keeping these bars on hand? Absolutely. And you should too! Right now they are offering 30% off for first time users!  It's the perfect snack for the nursing mama, the perfect pick me up for a busy day at work, and a great way to start or finish a work out. Something for everyone!

Thank you to GoMacro for providing me with the bars. All opinions expressed are my own.

Prissy Lips & Fitness Tips

I love Saturdays. This is a very generic comment, especially if you don't have to work. I am saying it anyways.

For my birthday last week, one of my sweet friends gave me a smorgasbord present, with random and unrelated products. Those are my favorite! As a side note, whenever I use the word "smorgasbord" I ALWAYS think of this scene out of Charlotte's Web. I watched this movie a lot. Anyways....
Or... click HERE for the link if you are viewing on your mobile.
PS- I don't remember this movie being so creepy.

One of the items was a lip gloss I have never used OR heard of! There are few things I love more than a new brand. I am a sucker for good smells and cute packaging...and this product delivers! And... I know you aren't supposed to eat your lip gloss, but who are you kidding? Everyone knows it gets in your mouth. This stuff tastes good...bonus!

This is... Fake Bake in "Prissy Lips." I even love the name. It is fitting for this gloss. It is a light, sparkly pink that I would possibly layer over a darker color, or wear alone for a light tint. It smells sweet and candy-like and has a similar taste.
I just love the tube. Crossing my fingers that I can keep this one in my possession for more than a few months. The good news is, even if I lose it, I will probably find it under my car seat later. Thanks Al :)

Also... my favorite FIT blog...simply(fit)girls , posted about "the perfect snack" in their last blog entry. I finally got the chance to try the "Larabar" today and I am a huge fan! It reminds me a lot of my favorite pre workout snack...energy balls. (You can google this concept and come up with several variations!) It's the perfect amount of food to eat before a workout! Or if you are like me, and are starving before bed, it's a great and healthy snack! (Side note: if you have a sweet tooth, it comes in chocolate/peanut butter combos. My favorite!)

Lastly, but MORE importantly, if you are looking to change up, or START a fitness routine, Lincoln recently gained an amazing trainer! Roxanne at simply(fit)girls is available to meet your fitness needs. Check out their blog for fitness tips, quick work outs, or to find out more about customizing your own workout with a trainer.
One of my favorite things about simply(fit)girls is that $5 out of every workout session is donated to an organization of YOUR choice! How cool is that?
If you are in Lincoln, get in touch with Roxanne HERE.

Wishing everyone a relaxing and fun weekend!

Love,

Personal Struggles: Greek Yogurt

If you keep up with anything health related, you know that Greek Yogurt is where it's at these days. It is the perfect snack...low in fat, high in protein.

There is just one problem: I HATE IT.

I can handle it in a smoothie, but alone, I simply cannot shake the fact that I am eating sour cream, or something similar, straight from the jar.

Thus starts my periodical journey with trying to make myself like Greek yogurt. I have tried different brands, different flavors, etc. A while back, someone recommended trying Chobani brand, Honey flavor. I typically buy Chobani (when I am experimenting) and have had the most success with it. (By success I mean haven't thrown up.)

So, this week, I purchased 4 small cups (as pictured above) to keep at work for when I become famished.

It went something like this...

Day 1: Remove lid. Smell yogurt. Become nauseated. Attempt to eat, gag 800 times before finishing yogurt.

Day 2: Brilliantly mix cinnamon into my yogurt. Realize this barely did anything and proceed to gag 600 times to finish.

Day 3: Mix cinnamon, Truvia, and oats into my yogurt. Gag twice before finishing.

Could it be that this yogurt is an acquired taste? My concern is that I am making it unhealthy by  using all of these add-ins that make it easier for me to swallow (literally).

So, I have one more left, that I will try to eat tomorrow. Maybe I am missing something, or maybe I just need to completely derail this Greek Yogurt train. Any advice for other healthy snack options, add-ins, or  basically anything you want to say, is welcomed.

Love,
