Friday Five

I thought Friday would never get here! I have been extra tired this week and ready for a holiday weekend. So... high five for Friday! Today we are linking up Tif @ Bright On A Budget blog to share 5 things this Friday.

Starting with...

1. Enchiladas
I'll preface this one by saying we (as in my husband and I) aren't really big Mexican food fans. We will grab a burrito occasionally but as far as going to Mexican restaurants... unusual. I decided to try my hand at enchiladas this week and it went well. I used the Pioneer Woman's recipe for the beef one and made up the chicken one on my own. They were a hit!

Prepping.

Finished product.

2. Tassel earrings
I found these earrings at a local boutique for $4 yesterday. They are also really lightweight! (Just like my Sweet Pi & Fi earrings from last week!) So it was a total win.
Sorry about awkward selfie. Had to be able to see the earrings!

3. My Grandma sent me these photos last night in reference to yesterday's post. Totally made my day! She still has them.

Difficult to see but you get the idea!

4. This is a typical night with Brick.
He is always watching. Always.

5. Green Room movie

I haven't done a movie review in awhile, which is partly because there haven't been as many movies out that we are interested in. But I have mentioned before, we LOVE going to the movies. And ever since they put an Alamo Drafthouse a mere 10 minutes from our house, we have been even bigger movie buffs. Anyways, all that to say, the last movie we went to was Green Room. (Side note: I think it is safe to say my husband has a slightly eclectic taste in films, and I have been a part of some flicks that I would have never gone to otherwise. Sometimes good experiences, sometimes not so much. It's a win either way because of the Reuben pizza at Alamo.)

You guys, this movie is absolutely terrifying. It is unnerving, it is disturbing... it is the most suspenseful film I have ever watched. I don't have much else to say. If you are into that sort of thing, you should definitely check it out. I didn't know what I was getting myself into. In terms of what the movie can do to your emotions and anxiety levels, it is fantastic.

Alright! I'm out of here. Thanks for stopping by Sweet & Modern. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

xoxo

Life Update {Random Thoughts}

I have so many exciting things going on right now, I feel like I am in the middle of a tornado! But.. in a good way. That really didn't make much sense. Oh well!

Random thoughts:

  • We are SO CLOSE to finishing up a little house project that I cannot wait to show you guys! AHHHH! It's  been consuming us since Monday but we are super close to being done.

  • We are hosting Easter at our house! See above. Yeah, bad timing. :) Actually, great timing because we WILL get it done in time for our guests!

  • Did you notice Sweet & Modern looks a little different? YEP! Bear with me while I implement all the new links, etc. And I have more to share on our makeover. But for now, I'm just enjoying staring at it.

  • I LOVE the Pioneer Woman. I swear all of my favorite recipes are from her. So, no surprise that I seriously love her Walmart line. I picked up this cheery tablecloth recently ... and I love it. If you haven't browsed it, she has so much to chose from! I want it all.

  • Random question of the day: what is the  best candle to burn around the house? I'm thinking affordable, burns well and has a noticeable scent. I typically use Woodwick or Bath and Body works. I'll throw in a Yankee candle every now and again as well. But.... I'd love to hear your opinions!

  • I heard that today is National Dog day. I feel like every day is a national holiday of some kind.. but I won't pass up a reason to post a picture of my little munchkin. Who is totally acting like a teenager lately....
Brick with his new nap mat.

One of my favorite pictures from the first week we had Brick. <3

Typical Brick face.

Thanks for hanging with me today... and for tolerating my hectic schedule lately! Have a great Wednesday!

{10 on Tuesday}

Today we are linking up with September Farm blog for 10 on Tuesday! I love this link up and the fact that it's 10… ANYTHING!

Here we go!

1. I am currently testing out this scent from Chanel. So far, SO good. It's the most subtly sweet scent and I am sort of obsessed.

2. Okay, I have heard about the Sigma cleaning mat on repeat. All the time. Multiple blogs. And I was like "Yeah, cleaning your make up brushes suck. I don't do it as often as I should. But.. why is this necessary?" Well… the other day I realized I seriously need to clean them more often. And so when I stumbled on the Sigma Beauty cleaning mat while browsing,  I thought… why not? And you guys… I'm here to say that I'm sorry for what I said. This is a real life game changer.  Why you ask? Before, I would swish, clean, rinse, swish, clean rinse FOREVER (or what seemed like forever) just trying to get the make up out of my brushes. I don't know who invented this thing, but they knew what they were doing. In just a few swishes and strokes, my brushes were totally clean.

AND… this mat suctions into your sink which makes it super, super easy and quick. It's $20ish depending where you get it. And it is $20 well spent.

Repeat after me… GAME. CHANGER.

3. These shoes. That is all. (See #6)

4. In case you missed it… I got to share about what I've learned so far in marriage on Her View From Home yesterday. You can read it HERE!

5. This March weather is making me SO happy. I don't even mind the rain! I thought for sure we were in for another blizzard, and so far… it seems to be legit Spring. I'll take it.

6. I'm so excited that I can hardly stand it…. A Midwestern Mix and I are going to Omaha Fashion Week on Thursday. As in the day after tomorrow.  Stay tuned for the post that details it all!

7. Another reason to love the warm weather… THESE TOPS. I want them all. If it's off the shoulder, just sign me up. You can find this top HERE

8. Bad news on the home front: Brick figured out how to get off the deck. We wondered how long it would take him to figure out that an empty cooler blocking the stairs can be moved! It was nice while it lasted.

9. My extra  hot husband came home with these the other night. I am a little bit obsessed. And as far as I'm concerned, it's practically a health food. (BUY IT. TRY IT.) Target special.

10. Lastly, a question for YOU! Where is your favorite place to get reasonably priced wall decor? I am ready to start and finish decorating and I am so overwhelmed! HELP!

Thanks for reading, and thanks to September Farm for hosting the link up!

Have a sweet Tuesday!

xoxo

What's Up Wednesday!

Hi everyone!

This week cannot get over soon enough, to be honest. I already feel like it's been an entire week! And that's never a good sign. But enough of the negative Nancy-isms...

Today we are linking up with Shay for What's Up Wednesday!  And that is always fun!
1. What We're Eating This Week:
The usual. Chicken and veggies. Turkey bowls. Pizza on Mondays. :)
But we are also eating this recipe I mentioned yesterday. Delish!

2. What I'm Reminiscing About:
I am a big time reminiscer  ... for some reason the other day I was talking about the day I met Clay, our first date, etc. Clay probably cringes when he hears me "remember when...?" But it's probably because we co-blogged about it a few weeks ago! :) You can read about how we met from my and Clay's perspective here and here! I love LOVE!

3. What I'm Loving:
These Sorel boots I mentioned last week. And... this week I found this pair and they are on sale! So... it's happening! I can't wait for my feet to stay dry in all of this snow!

4. What We've Been Up To:
We have both been working our normal day jobs and being a boring married couple! And I am not at all upset about it! In addition, we have been planning and dreaming about house projects. None of these are pressing, but there is a list going :) And my Pinterest board is overflowing with ideas!

5. What I Am Dreading:
More snow. Does it ever end? I heard yesterday that we are supposed to get a big snowstorm  next week. I. Am. Over. It.
6. What I'm Working On:
Still working on wedding thank yous. All that to say we are incredibly blessed to have so many friends and family gift us so many wonderful things on our wedding day! I mentioned a few weeks ago that this WILL be done by mid February.

7. What I'm Excited About:
We are planning a few potential get aways for the coming year. I love planning. And dreaming about things we may or may not do. Either way, it's exciting. We are discussing Nashville - neither of us have been. Thoughts?

8. What I'm Watching/Reading:
I'm currently not reading anything due to the fact that I read every book I had on my list over our honeymoon. But I am now watching the latest Netflix season of New Girl. I cannot get enough of that show. Constant LOLs.

And of course Ben. This season.... eye roll. I do like Ben though.

9. What I'm Listening To:
Clay was playing some Americana Pandora station the other day and now I'm hooked on a few songs. I love hearing new artists!

10. What I'm Wearing:
Anything warm. I feel like my everyday fashion is boots, the warmest sweater I can find, and a scarf. And not solely for fashion purposes. I really am just THAT cold.

11. What I'm Doing This Weekend:
Nothing major! Catching up on laundry and cleaning, per usual. And that is fine by me! I love low key weekends.

12. What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month:
Clay and I are going to San Diego! I am SO EXCITED. I have never been to San Diego and have really always wanted to go. We will be spending a long weekend there and taking in the sights... as well as a day of skiing at Big Bear. We are still negotiating on if I will actually be skiing or not... either way... cannot wait!

13. What Else Is New?
Aside from everything just discussed? Nothing really. We are kind of in chill mode... so is Brick. ;)

Happy Wednesday! Here's to the rest of the week flying by!

We're Back!

Hello! It feels nice to be back on the blog after a little hiatus. Things have been crazy around here and so while I gather my thoughts, I wanted to bring in a guest blogger.

Hi, I’m Brick! This is my first blog, ever.  Bear with me, it’s hard for me to type with my huge paws. So are my ears, but oh well.

I found a picture that my mom took of me the other day. She always snaps pictures when I am busy trying to eat my rope, so it's not very good. Oh well, at least you know what I look  like.

The last few months have been crazy. For starters, my mom moved in with my dad. I don’t know what is going on exactly, but she is here all the time now. Also, there are so many new things to smell. Every day, new boxes arrive in the mail. Mom gets super excited, but then she won’t let me have any of it. It’s pretty annoying. I tried to help her unpack by eating all of the paper, but apparently that wasn’t right either. She freaked out, like usual.

Also, Dad gave Mom his closet and she put all of her clothes in there. And get this… I’m not allowed in there anymore! She is absolutely ridiculous. I think the rule is stupid, so I try to go in there every day anyways.

Anyways, I stayed with my grandparents out on the farm for a week. Not sure where mom and dad were. I kept hearing them talk about a wedding but I still haven't found time to look up what that is. I missed them when they drove away, but then I forgot immediately and chased squirrels for several days. I also rolled in mud whenever the opportunity presented itself. What a week! When I finally saw them again, the first thing I noticed is that Dad is now wearing a ring. I tried to tell him I didn’t think he seemed like a jewelry guy, but he is adamant that he wears it every day. He must be going through a midlife crisis. Wait, how old is my dad? Eh, I’ll figure it out later.

On to more important things. Mom moved my bed to the other side of the room. For like 30 whole seconds I had no idea where I was supposed to sleep.  I heard her tell Dad it made the new curtains look better in the bedroom when my kennel (I hate when they call it that! As if I’m some sort of animal) isn’t blocking the window. She is so selfish sometimes. I guess she does feed me every night though. She’s okay.

Oh, I can’t believe I forgot to bring this up.  Last week, mom and dad came home and were excited and kept talking about something called a “furminator.” I ignored them like usual because most of what they say is super boring. Then dad gave me a bath (hate those) and they started using this “furminator” device on my awesome hair. I’m kind of upset because I was just getting it to where it was super long again, and I felt like it was a good Fall to Winter transitional look.  But.. like usual, they ruined it for me. Now, my shedding is reduced by 90%. (I know because I dug the brush packaging out of the bottom of the trash. There were coffee grounds everywhere, it was wild.) I guess it’s all for the best because now Mom isn’t complaining to Dad as much about my hair being on the floor right after she vacuums (more on that next time, what a frightening machine!)

Anyways, I am hoping my mom reads this post when I am done because my 1st birthday is coming up. Coincidently, it is the same day as Christmas. If they try to combine my gift I am going to absolutely freak.

Alright, well this took me almost 8 hours to type since I just learned computers exist today. My dad is going to be home from work soon and that is my favorite part of the day. I need to get to the door first because Mom always tries to beat me to Dad for the first hug. Like I said before, she is kind of annoying.

Gotta go!

The Current Post

I stumbled on this "currently I am…" challenge and thought I would give it a go. So, here it goes.

Reading…. Unbroken. There isn't much to say as I just started, but, so far so good! I wanted to read it in case I decide to see the movie.

Playing… what? I'm not playing anything. Sometimes I play trivia crack. I actually feel like the constant trivia is making me smarter. Maybe.

Watching… Parks & Rec. Need I say more? Greatest show. And the Bachelor, unfortunately. What a mess.

Trying… I was trying to come up with the greatest cinnamon roll recipe ever, but making 1-2 batches per week became tiring and I am breaking on that effort.

Cooking… nothing lately. I have really been slacking.

Eating… a lot of girl scout cookies. Too many. Embarrassing amounts. I wish the peanut butter patty and thin mint didn't exist. This season of life needs to end, stat.

Drinking… a lot of water.

And I am going to wrap this up by combining the loving, thinking, discovering, feeling, going, smelling, listening to with this fun new life event:

Baby Brick was born on Christmas day and he is the sweetest little bundle of love. Pretty much since he has been here he is topping the charts on all of those things and we are so happy to have him.  And right now he is helping me write this blog.

I sure do love this sweet baby and it's probably time for us to cuddle up together. Goodnight everyone!

Love,
